Trusting Fate spin playful melodies and blend rich three-part harmonies with crisp lyrics.
The band’s songs are marked by inventive arrangements that explore luxurious instrumental and vocal layers. Trusting Fate’s straightforward songwriting style and ability to deliver intimate, engaging performances reveal all three members have been inspired by legendary singers, instrumentalists and storytellers such as Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Tom Waits, The Jayhawks and Richard Thompson.
The concept of Trusting Fate first emerged in 2007 when Therkelsen, O’Brien and Doyle were singing together in a nine-piece R&B dance outfit, Red Box Panic and felt driven to experiment with different acoustic instrumentation, the finer points of dynamics and with musical genres that could not be executed by a large rock ensemble. The three broke off and began to put their own twist on classic rock covers, inserting signature Americana and bluegrass rhythmic and melodic flavors using mandolin, fiddle and keyboards and combining them with improvisational, bluesy vocal lines and heartfelt, narrative lyrics. They became Trusting Fate in 2009 and have since played at favorite hometown venues throughout the Northeastern United States, including Java Room, The Tavern in Groton and and Main Street Café in Concord. The group has been featured on local radio and television programs.
